Lieutenant Colonel Tony Giordano was born in Sacramento, California in 1976. He was commissioned in June 1999, through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, as a Second Lieutenant in the Aviation Branch of the United States Army. Lieutenant Colonel Giordano’s first assignment was to 2-10 Aviation Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York, as an Executive Officer and Platoon Leader. Lieutenant Colonel Giordano was then assigned to 2-2 Aviation Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Korea, where he served as the Air Assault Liaison Officer to 2nd Infantry Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.
Following the Aviation Captain’s Career Course in 2004, Lieutenant Colonel Giordano was assigned to the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, Germany, and served as the Current Operations Officer and Brigade Battle Captain while deployed to Afghanistan in 2005. During the deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Giordano took command of A/3-158 Assault Helicopter Battalion in December 2005. In April 2007, Lieutenant Colonel Giordano was assigned to the Department of the Army Secretariat, Human Resources Command in Alexandria, Virginia as a Board Recorder.
Lieutenant Colonel Giordano then served with the 4th Infantry Division’s Combat Aviation Brigade as the Brigade Plans Officer and 2-4 General Support Aviation Battalion Executive Officer while deployed to Afghanistan during the 2010-2011 Presidential Surge. Following the deployment, the Combat Aviation Brigade moved from Fort Hood, Texas to Fort Bliss, Texas and became 1st Armored Division, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade. He was the 2-501 General Support Aviation Battalion Executive Officer, Operations Officer and deployed to Afghanistan in 2013.
In July 2013, Lieutenant Colonel Giordano was assigned to Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region, Washington, D.C., and served as a Joint and Interagency Planner. In July 2017, Lieutenant Colonel Giordano assumed command of 3-58 Airfield Operations Battalion, 164th Theater Airfield Operations Group.
Since July 2019, Lieutenant Colonel Giordano serves as the Professor of Military Science at Indiana University.
Notable awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Medal (4), Senior Army Aviator Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Order of Saint Michael (Bronze Award).
Lieutenant Colonel Tony Giordano’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Systematic Biology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1999 and a Master of Public Administration from Strayer University in 2009.
He is married to Melinda, and they have four children.
