Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Walton was commissioned in June 2005, through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry Branch of the United States Army. LTC Walton’s first assignment was to 3-21 Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team of 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska, as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Battalion Reconnaissance Platoon Leader, and Headquarter and Headquarters Company Executive Officer. LTC Walton deployed to Iraq in 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 3-21 Infantry Regiment as the Reconnaissance Platoon Leader.
Following the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course in 2010, LTC Walton was assigned to the 2-327 Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, and served as the Assistant Operations Officer while deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After the deployment, LTC Walton assumed command of Bravo Company, 2-327 Infantry Regiment. In 2012, LTC Walton assumed command of Headquarters and Headquarters Company and deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Company Commander.
In August 2013, LTC Walton was assigned to Ball State University Army ROTC, Indiana as an Assistant Professor of Military Science. Following Command General Staff College in 2015, LTC Walton was assigned to 2-4 Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division as the Battalion Operations Officer. He deployed to Iraq in 2016 in support of Operation Iraqi Resolve as the Brigade Executive Officer.
In July 2017, LTC Walton was assigned to Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Washington, D.C., and served as the Interagency Team Lead. Since July 2021, LTC Walton serves as the Assistant Professor of Military Science at Indiana University.
Notable awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2 Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Accommodation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (2 Oak Leaf Cluster), Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
LTC Walton’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts in German from Ball State University, Indiana in 2005 and a Master of Adult Education from Kansas State University in 2016.
He is married to Mary Ann, and they have four children.
